Are boys and girls brains wired differently? Do girls approach learning and school routines differently than boys? And how about getting along in society… are girls today benefiting from equality legislation, consciousness raising, and the gains of women in the workplace, or is it still an advantage to be beautiful, not too brainy, and a social whiz? And what role do researchers see advertising and media playing in how girls see themselves, or in influencing their behavior.
Participants will explore stereotypes of both boys and girls and how to teach children to think critically about roles, appearances and behaviors viewed in media. We’ll look at some fascinating recent findings on girls learning styles, and what teachers, parents and helping professionals can do to girls to make smart choices, thrive in school, and do well in life.
