(Based on the book by Fr. Henri Nouwen)
This profoundly beautiful parable and the Rembrandt painting by the same name served as a spiritual linchpin for an important part of Nouwen’s spiritual journey toward wholeness. Come and experience the “window into his soul” these spiritual treasures provide.
During this multi-media retreat experience, you will be invited to explore for yourself the tremendous power of this parable of forgiveness and love. You will be given the opportunity to closely examine a large poster replica of the beautiful painting; and to discuss some of the most profound passages from the book that some describe as a spiritual masterpiece…and one of Nouwen’s finest works.
Learn how the painting actually motivated Nouwen to begin an intense time of meditation and prayer, which profoundly affected his understanding of the love of God. In the process he also discovered that this beautiful parable challenges the reader to examine her/his own spirituality and to question how one chooses to answer or ignore God’s call to love one another.
This presentation, which can range in length from two to four hours, includes time for personal reflection and prayer as well as several short lectures and opportunities for both small group and large group discussion. One format option also includes time to enjoy and reflect upon music that has been specially selected to highlight themes in the presentation.
This brief but powerful retreat experience is designed to help each participant begin to understand the concepts of unconditional love and acceptance that God is constantly showering upon us.
In addition to receiving a handy reference to some of the most profound concepts in the book, participants will also receive a paperback copy of the book for further reading, reflection and prayer.
